Last Friday the Storytimers celebrated “Groundhog Day” with crafts, songs, and cupcakes. The picture shows the craft they made; a groundhog that could go up and down into the ground to hunt for his shadow. According to him, we have six more weeks of winter so come in and check out books, movies, and music CDs to get through those long winter nights!

New books this week include: The Tiger’s Wife by Tea Obreht (a young doctor arrives to do mission work in a Balkan country but is haunted by the stories of her grandfather), the Invible Ones by Steh Penney (mystery where a PI is hired to find the missing wife of a traveling gypsy family), How do You Kill 11 Million People? by Andy Andrews (that is the number of people killt by the Nazi German regime between 1933 and 1945; he explores what happens to a society in which truth is absent), In the Garden of Beasts by Eric Larson (Berlin in 1933, the rise of the Nazi control over Germany), and Mosby’s Rangers by Jeffry D. Wert (the true adventures of the most famous command of the Civil War). Come in and check them out.

Saturday, February 11, the Friends of the Haven Public Library are hosting a Valentine cookie decorating event. All are invited; everything will be furnished by the Friends. Any children (five years or younger) need to be in the company of an adult. Come join us from 10-11 on Saturday morning!!!! Hope to see you there!!

Reminder: “Monday Night at the Movies” this month is Monday evening, February 20th, at 6:00 PM. We will be showing “Water for Elephants”. Come join us for a fun evening!

The picture this week shows the Storytimers enjoying Rice Krispie treats after listening to a story, singing songs, and doing a craft all about snowmen. Their artwork is being displayed on the bulletin board that greets you as you walk in the library. Come in and see their masterpieces!

New books that were received this week include: Love in a Nutshell by Janet Evanovich and Dorien Kelly (a novel of romantic suspense and secretive sabotage, plus lots and lots of beer!), The Importance of Being Seven by Alexander McCall-Smith ( a novel from the “44 Scotland Street” series ), Private: #1 Suspect by James Patterson (Jack Morgan is accused of murder and not even his world-class investigators can prove that he is innocent), Tinker, Tailor,Soldier, Spy by John Le Carre (a novel of international intrigue; a new movie version has just come out), Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs (a very strange story that mixes text with photographs, written for adults and teens YA), and the Pillsbury Annual Recipes 2012 (includes the “bake-off” winning recipes). Come in and check them out!!!

We will be having a new book discussion on Monday, February 6, at 7:00 PM. We will be discussing The Paris Wife by Paula McLain. It is the novelization of the story of Ernest Hemingway’s first marriage to Hadley Richardson and their move to Paris, France. You can now come in and pick them up. Please join us for an entertaining evening with refreshments.

Library hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12-7; Wednesdays, 12-5; Fridays and Saturdays, 9-2. Library board meetings are on the first Tuesday of the month, at 7 P.M.
